September is almost here and most of us will hopefully have enjoyed a nice Summer with time to recharge and reflect.
Now we’re entering the last stretch of the performance year: four months to go. Most of your factual and numeric goals are hopefully clear by now, but maybe this is also the perfect moment to set yourself a different kind of goal. Goals that energize you, give you a sense of meaning, and leave you proud when you look back in December.
Here are a few tips:
* Visualize where you can truly make a difference in your role. In which meetings, with which stakeholders? What could you do differently or more intentionally to create that impact?
* Define the unique value you bring to your team, project, or organisation. How can you bring that to life more consistently?
* Picture yourself at the end of the year. What would need to happen for you to feel really satisfied? Can you break that into smaller steps to keep yourself moving?
Writing down these goals, and keeping them visible, can give you more focus, energy, and passion for the months ahead. And here’s the paradox: when you invest in these more personal, fulfilling goals, chances are you’ll hit the numeric ones along the way.
So what could be an energizing goal you’ll set for yourself for the coming month?
